WEEK 5/15 — Progress & Perspective

4/4 lifting sessions
2/2 runs — 13 km total
Average steps: 10,114/day
Average weight: 135.7 lbs
Average calories: 2,560/day

Target: 2,485 cals · 155P · 275C · 85F

This week was a reminder that how we feel about our bodies doesn’t always reflect what’s actually happening with them.

My mood and energy were particularly low this week. I started my period on Wednesday, and the days leading up to it were more emotionally challenging than usual. I felt sensitive, critical of myself, and generally less like myself.

Interestingly, my training told a different story.

I completed all four lifting sessions, my weights continue to increase, and running still feels good. Recovery has been manageable, although some tightness is reminding me to prioritize mobility.

I also took progress photos and videos this week. I can see changes in my muscular development, but I noticed how quickly my attention shifted from that progress to the things I didn’t particularly like.

It’s interesting how differently we can perceive the same body depending on our emotional state.

And I think that’s an important part of pursuing aesthetic goals: learning to evaluate progress without letting every passing mood influence how we feel about ourselves.

A few other observations from the week:

Nutrition has been consistent. I’ve been prioritizing whole foods and added peanut butter to my morning oatmeal, which has noticeably improved satiety.

Sleep was decent overall, apart from a couple of disrupted nights with the baby. I worked three shifts and kept alcohol to the weekend.

Changes for Week 6:

No changes to calories or macros. Training is progressing, recovery is manageable, and I don’t see a reason to adjust anything.

My priorities are improving mobility, monitoring recovery, and being more intentional about how I start the week.

Five weeks in, I’m seeing progress. And I’m reminding myself that not every thought I have about my body deserves to be treated as an objective assessment of it.

On to Week 6.
