WEEK 4/15 — Putting the data into perspective.

4/4 lifting sessions
2/2 runs · 21 km total
Average steps: 10,269/day
Average weight: 135.2 lbs
Average calories: 2,630/day

Target: 2,485 cals · 155P · 275C · 85F

This week I did my first follow-up InBody assessment since starting this 15-week hypertrophy project.

My initial results suggested a decrease in skeletal muscle mass and an increase in body fat percentage. Not exactly the direction I’m working toward.

But here’s where I think it’s important to look beyond a single measurement.

I repeated the assessment the following day and saw a 1.3 lb difference in estimated skeletal muscle mass and a 1.5 percentage-point difference in body fat. Obviously, my body composition didn’t change that dramatically overnight.

The InBody is one tool I’m using to track progress, but like any measurement, it has limitations. Hydration, timing and testing conditions can influence the results. So I’m considering those numbers alongside everything else I’m observing.

My lifts are progressing. I’m moving heavier weights. My running feels stronger, and I’ve increased my weekly mileage while continuing to recover well between sessions. My energy is good, and visually, I’m not seeing changes that suggest excessive fat accumulation.

None of these things independently proves that I’m building muscle, either. But collectively, they give me a much more complete picture of how my body is responding to training and nutrition.

The purpose of collecting data is to make better decisions, not to react to every number.

I’m also due for my period in a few days, which adds another variable to consider when interpreting body composition measurements. My plan is to repeat the InBody assessment after my period, alongside a new set of progress photos, so I can compare both against my September baseline.

I’m interested in the overall trends over time and until the data gives me a meaningful reason to adjust, I’ll continue doing what’s working.

Four weeks in. The work continues…
