Resistance & Recovery

In the last couple weeks, I haven’t been recovering as well as usual. Likely due to the stress of the holidays coupled with increasing volume and suboptimal sleep.

Resistance to adaptation has happened a couple times in my training and each time it generates some fear and frustration.

I ask @ernievo2max

β€œWhat can I do better?”

β€œWhat am I doing wrong?”

β€œHow can I fix this?”

With confidence and calm, he reinforces that I need to:

βœ…Dial in sleep

βœ…Manage stress

βœ…Rest

βœ…Allow for recovery

Training doesn’t stop but he conscientiously adjusts my program for recovery to take place.

Ultimately, the work of training AND #recovery are up to me.

πŸŒ±π—£π—”π—§π—œπ—˜π—‘π—–π—˜ is not the same as complacency.

It means don’t panic, assess the situation, see where improvements can be made and make adjustments in a calm and confident manner.

Resistance to adaptation offers a valuable opportunity to become conscious of the choices I’m making and whether or not they are bringing me closer to my goals or farther away from them.

#awareness allows me to use what’s within my control to my advantage.

πŸ›Œπ—¦π—Ÿπ—˜π—˜π—£ is key.

I aim for 7-8 hours, keep bedtime consistent throughout the week and nap with the kids on the weekends.

I love productivity. My week is #jampacked juggling kids, activities, training, school and work schedules. I have to make a mindful effort to slow down and take time for rest to avoid burnout.

πŸ‹πŸ»β€β™€οΈπ—™π—”π—œπ—§π—› that this phase has purpose and my body will adapt keeps me grounded.

I wholeheartedly trust my coach. His guidance, advice and programming continue to make me better. He’s expertly moved me through adaptive resistance before and I’m stronger because of it.

Part of performance training means trusting your coach and your body, remaining focused and committed while surrendering to the process.

xo,

Jen
