Dear Ruby,
Today you are 7.
Watching you grow and become the beautiful human you are gives me indescribable joy.
When you tell a story using your hands and facial expressions for emphasis or when you’re eating a peach, squinting your eyes against the warm sun, juice running down your arms…all I want to do is capture these moments and preserve the magic of them. I’m so thankful to be able to witness you experience the world around you.
You continue to become this bright, curious, witty version of yourself. You hunger for knowledge — always asking questions (your favorite is “why?”). You have a fascination with words and a ceaseless desire to read. You sound out letters on labels, books, signs and ask me what they mean.
You love animals, especially horses. You relate to Gary like he’s a little brother (as opposed to the family shitzu), arguing with him as he’s biting your hair and feet or dragging items from your room to his “treasure” pile. 😂
And, lawdy, lawdy….you.are.a.tough. You’ve done CrossFit workouts with me and in the middle of the workout, fallen down and scraped your knees but after a good cry and some consolation, you get up, dust yourself off and adamantly finish the workout. You’ve hiked mountains that would humble most adults and you continue to face fear and discomfort with grace and perseverance. You possess a deep determination that awes me. 🙌
I’m certain you will be a leader one day. Maybe not necessarily in the vocational sense, (although you have told me you want to be “a boss”). 😂Your empathy and edge will be influential regardless of “how” you choose to serve others.
Emmett continues to be your best friend in the truest sense of the word. You are loyal and protective of him, telling him, “if anyone bothers you Emmett, you let me know”, giving him your toughest look and making a fist. (You both stare at each other and burst out laughing). I love it when you’re walking side by side and naturally hold hands with one another.
You are LOVING, FUNNY, FEISTY and INTELLIGENT. I’m so grateful to know you and to watch you grow, my beautiful girl. I’m so proud of you.
Happy Birthday Rubes.
Love,
Mom
